Season of Lent and the Stations
By: Giselle
During the season of lent in the Holy Catholic Church we do the Stations of the Cross for 40 days every Friday until Easter. Lent is all about fasting and Jesus being killed for our sins. Lent is an important topic to pay attention to. For the little kids especially, it's good to know how our Lord and Savior gave up his life for our sins on Good Friday. There are plaques on the walls of the church, but at St. Lawrence the stations are in the stained-glass windows around the sides of the church. Each picture represents each step Jesus went through to be crucified. As you listen to the priest talk about each station, you can look at them to get a visual of it. Jesus made us an important part of His life, and we should make Him an important part of ours too.

Mcrest and Doing Good for Others
By: Luke
Mcrest is a charity to help homeless people get back on their feet. Over winter break St. Lawrence hosted 65 homeless people in our building so they could have a home for a week. In fact, our very own Mrs. Juhassz worked at Mcrest over the weekend and they even helped a woman get a job and she moved into a new home! This is wonderful and life changing organization. Doing good for others is very important because you never know if you could become homeless and you would certainly want people to help you. As the book of proverbs says "if you refuse to listen to the cry of the of the poor, your own cry will be unheard". You can do so many good things for others here at St. Lawrence like say hello to your teachers and helping someone who dropped their books in the hallway. We all need to learn how to become better people and make a difference in the world.

- Stay organized- always know where all your stuff is so you can be on time.
- Always arrive early to class- arrive early to class so that you can make sure you have everything in case you have to go back to your locker.
- Recognize your schedule- memorize your schedule because you don’t want to spend time having to look at your folder.
- Know what time it is- you always want to be aware when to leave class and how long you have.
- Spend your time wisely- when the bell rings immediately do anything you need to so you don’t get marked tardy
- Always have extra supplies- you never want to run out of supplies because some teachers will NOT give supplies.
- Always pay attention in class- make sure you know the homework and how to do it. Never be afraid to ask a question.
- Find the quickest routes to class- in order to be early to class, you must find the quickest way to get there and don’t spend time fooling around in the halls.
- Try to use an agenda- make sure you know what happened in every class to stay organized.
- Always do your homework- always do your homework so that you can show the teacher you understand what she is teaching.

A Guide to Eating Healthy
By: Alyssa
Eat Healthy, Stay Wealthy! Everyone should eat food from the 5 food groups every single day. They are: grains, protein, veggies, dairy, and fruits. You need at least 60 minutes (1 hour) of physical activity per day. Some examples of physical activity are walking, riding a bike, dancing, golf, horseback riding, soccer, and football. If you are not physically active, you are more likely to get these: heart disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Even if you need to eat out, you can still make healthy choices. Some ways to do this are picking a small drink, looking at calories, picking a salad if offered, ordering small fries, not always getting a dessert, thinking of what you are doing later that day, and limiting your toppings. Sugary drinks can cause tooth decay and/or unwanted weight gain. Maybe on the weekends is fine, but during the week, eat healthy. Eat Healthy, Stay Wealthy Mustangs!

What is up with the new Fortnite Craze?
By: Jack
Almost everyone plays it. Almost everyone is obsessed with it, but the question remains, especially to those who don't play it. Why do people like Fortnite so much? Well, I deiced that I wanted to get to the bottom of it. So, I began to question middle school students on their position. One anonymous student said "I don't play it. I think it's dumb, and I don't see the point of it. It's dumb because when I want to watch TV my brother is playing Fortnite." When I asked the student why they think people like it so much the student replied, "Because they get to play with their friends."
I decided that I wanted to get both sides of the story, so I asked diehard Fortnite player, Gabe. Gabe said, "I really enjoy the battle royale idea, also, the concept of building adds a whole new perspective to the game. I think Fortnite is a great game and that people don’t like it because they have never played it." So, there you have it. That is what Fortnite is like. If you would like to try it for yourself, it is available for free on console, PC and Mac. What do you think about Fortnite?

2017-18 Gala
By: Madelyn 2017-18 Gala is an amazing night for our St. Lawrence parents. It is a night filled with fun, food, and friends. It is coming up shortly on February 9, 2018. This year's Gala is located at the Palazzolo Grande which is on 25 Mile and Vandyke. The theme from last year's Gala was the roaring twenties and turned out to be very interesting and a night full of fun. But of course, what is the star theme for this year's gala? It is Viva Las Vegas and is very chic. I know that all parents would love to go to this. What is the purpose for the Gala? The purpose for the Gala is to raise money for our school St. Lawrence and to upgrade our school. This year's Gala is going to be the time of your life with food, family, and friends. I hope all parents attend the 2017-18 Gala. Color Sorting Robots By: Sydney You’ve probably heard of a robot vacuum named Rumba. Or a robot that dog named Zoomer! Even a unicorn robot and medical robots. Plus, you can’t forget about the monkeys! But, have you ever heard about a color sorting robot? Well, the kids of St. Lawrence have because, our own STEM class made one! One day, two boys in our stem class here at St. Lawrence finished their class assignment early and decided to build another robot. The boys demolished their other robot and took the pieces to build a color sorting robot. The robot can sort Lego blocks into 4 different colors, red, green, yellow, and blue. How it works is that you scan your block and put it on the rack. The when you’ve scanned all of your blocks, you turn it on and in just about 30 seconds your blocks are sorted into their labeled cups. But, make sure that you don’t put the green cup in the red cups spot and etc. I hope that you consider sending your child to St. Lawrence or even Students in middle school, sign up for STEM class! |
2017-18 Daddy Daughter Dance.
By: Madelyn The 2017-18 Daddy Daughter Dance was the best night ever. It was such a special night with your Dad for girls from Kindergarten to eighth grade. I'm telling you if you didn’t go this year, go next year. It was so much fun. It was on Sunday, January 14, 2018. Food was served, lots of girls had very pretty dresses, there were prizes, and even a DJ. So many awesome things. The theme was "late 50's." I hope you came to dance, party, eat, and play fun games. It was such a special night for all who attended. Movie Review Jumanji
